Battle for the Dance Belt: Future Shift

3rd Shift Dance is bringing back our popular series “Battle for the Dance Belt” and is seeking acts for this one night event April 23, 2016 at Broadway Performance Hall. In this edition, we are seeking 20 acts that capture the top levels of artistry, innovation in choreography, and risk taking for an exciting night of dance. At the close of the event, the audience votes for the fan favorite who receives $100 and the “platinum” dance belt. New this cycle, we are bringing in a panel of esteemed choreographers to select one piece as the best choreographed of the evening. The choreographer chosen will receive $500 and will be commissioned to create an original piece on 3rd Shift Dance in summer 2016.

There is a participation fee of $100 per act. This fee helps cover the upfront costs of producing a show in Seattle’s most vibrant arts community, Capitol Hill. All acts will be given video and photographs free of charge and 2 complimentary tickets to the event.

Interested applicants must submit a video of the work they would like considered for Battle for the Dance Belt, along with 2 photos for promotional purposes to 3rdShiftDance@gmail.com by February 20, 2016. This is a curated event and as such, there is no fee to apply. Once accepted, participation fee will be due at that time. There is no limit to the number of pieces you can submit for consideration, however do note that we will only be selecting 1 piece to represent each company, choreographer and/or school.
